These pleasant, fresh and spontaneous compositions were engraved by Péquégnot after the work of Jean-Baptiste Huet. The artist, wishing to suggest a drawing, used the technique of soft varnish to reproduce on copper the graphic effects of pencil on paper. These prints are usually printed with a reddish-brown sepia ink to approximate the visual warmth of the sanguine drawing.
Painter and draftsman there are two sides to Jean-Baptiste Huet: the lover of animals and the painter of the world.
From the beginning he obtained a brilliant success in Parisian society because shaped by this environment he was able to follow its evolution with talent. He started with Boucher, continued with Vien and David and ended with Prud'hon. He participated in many trade fairs. His easy, graceful and rich compositions equal those of Boucher and Oudry.
