Rogier van der Weyden is a painter belonging to the Flemish Primitive Movement, born in 1399 or 1400. He settled in Brussels in 1435 and became the official painter of the city. He honoured numerous commissions for the Dukes of Burgundy and their entourage. He made a trip to Italy around 1450 where he acquired a certain renown.
