In this painting, the Brussels artist Adam Frans Van der Meulen chose to depict a scene from the Old Testament: Tobias walking with his traveling companion, the archangel Raphael. The angel's wings and his role as guide and protector to Tobias-who is depicted as a traveler-make the scene recognizable. However, the figures seem to almost fade into the background in favor of the depiction of the landscape and nature, which are the main elements of the engraving. Thus, the print illustrates the long journey that still lies ahead of them.
