FRENCH VERSION
From Tokyo, we think we know everything : its saturated neon lights, its workers in a hurry, its iconic monuments... Yet behind these familiar images unfolds another face of the Japanese capital.
In this book, Clémence Leleu takes us through seven neighborhoods where the lines of force of contemporary Tokyo are drawn. It gives to hear those that the dominant stories often leave on the margins: daily workers of San'ya, seniors of Sugamo, market gardeners of Nerima, activists of Koenji... Their singular trajectories compose a social, cultural and political portrait far removed from "Cool Japan".
From these trajectories emerges a sensitive and documented reading of a megacolis in constant mutation : urban planning, ecology, social margins, countercultures, immigration... So many threads that make up the fabric of this B-side, where the mutations of contemporary Japan are observed, often with the most acuity.
