This box set highlights the theme of flowers, and more generally nature, so important in Japanese art, through a selection of the most famous prints of the ancestral genre of kashô-ga, these "images of flowers and animals", from the time of Hokusai to the early 20th century.
From the beginning of the 19th century, faced with the country's policy of isolationism, the Japanese aspired to more freedom, and found in nature an escape from the ambient claustration and asphyxia that threatened them in the long term.
This selection of the most beautiful prints dedicated to flowers is not only descriptive but also reveals how artists dream about them, fantasize about them and give them their own symbolic strength.
