Exhibition catalog - Henri Rivière et Mathurin Méheut - Regards japonisants sur la Bretagne

FRENCH VERSION
The same attraction for Japanese art brings together Henri Rivière (1864-1951) and Mathurin Méheut (1882-1958). For the first, which has never been there, it is a dreamed Japan, studied, analyzed in its smallest details, and this influence is obvious. For Meheut, it is a Japan lived, which will inspire him for several years after his return from travel to the land of the rising Sun in 1914. These artists also have in common to have treated under this japanizing prism their prints and paintings on Brittany, their other passion.
This book presents 100 works from both public and private collections, and archives for some unpublished. He documents this parallel journey in connection with Japanism and adds a tribute to the author André Juillard (1948-2024).
Exhibition at the Musée Mathurin Méheut from April 4 2026 to January 2, 2027.
