The K-beauty, one of the most remarkable expressions of the "Korean wave" (Hallyu), goes beyond the simple cosmetics industry: reconciling tradition and innovation, it creates and disseminates singular and striking visual codes.
If its rapid rise and sometimes futuristic dimension give the impression of a recent phenomenon, the K-beauty is deeply rooted in Korean history, especially that of the Joseon dynasty (1392-1910). The beauty archetypes forged at the end of this period, between balance and virtue, natural and sophistication, have retained their appeal to the present day and continue to influence Korean, and global popular culture.
