The marriage of the Dauphin, son of Louis XV, to Marie-Thérèse, the Infanta of Spain, was a major diplomatic event. Numerous performances were organized to celebrate this new union. Among them, *La Princesse de Navarre*, a comedy-ballet written by Voltaire and composed by Rameau, was staged in the stables of the Palace of Versailles. A temporary theater was erected for the occasion. On stage, the dancers and actors are accompanied by the orchestra. The large audience that came to watch the performance is spread out around the young royal couple, shown from behind.
