Presented in the rooms of the Villa des Arènes, a Genoese residence
dating from the 17th century, which houses the Matisse Museum since 1963, the
museum's permanent collection now includes paintings and cut gouaches,
drawings, engravings and sculptures. - illustrated books photographs that
belonged to the painter, complemented by silkscreens, tapestries, ceramics,
stained glass windows and documents. The interest of this collection lies in
the presentation of Matisse's artistic evolution, his advances and his research
in the field of color and graphics, from the first paintings of 1890 to
gouaches cut at the end of his life.
